The Deadline For Filing A Revlon Hair Relaxer Cancer Lawsuit Is Approaching

Hair relaxer or straightener cancer victims have only a few weeks left to file a lawsuit against Revlon

Tuesday, March 14, 2023 - Thousands of women are diagnosed with uterine cancer, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer and are considering filing an individual hair relaxer lawsuit claim if they have been regularly straightening their hair. Revlon is the most recent company to be named as a defendant in a hair straightener lawsuit. Toxic chemicals in the product are linked with causing several types of cancer. WFAA reports that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) study showed that women who used hair relaxers four or more times per year were more than twice as likely to develop cancer as women who did not. The study also pointed out that most of the users of chemical hair straightener products were Black women. The racial element of Revlon's marketing of hair straighteners to Black women is hardly a surprise as one only has to look at the product's packaging. Revlon's Realistic Extra Conditioning Creme Relaxer System brand of hair straightener features a photograph of the head of a Black woman with chemically straightened hair. Revlon filed for bankruptcy citing supply chain problems in 2022 but returned to profitability soon thereafter. The NIC article was timed to leave only a week for Revlon cancer victims to file a lawsuit against the company. The October 2022 deadline for filing a Revlon hair relaxer lawsuit has been extended until April 11, 2022 after which all Revlon hair relaxer lawsuits will be barred by the bankruptcy court. Lawyers report that they are investigating the allegations of thousands of people that think hair relaxer gave them hair relaxer uterine cancer. Lawyers are concerned that the April 11. 2023 deadline is not enough time and could prevent hundreds of women with cancer from getting their day in court. According to WFAA, "Larry Taylor Jr., a Dallas attorney and managing partner with The Cochran Firm, said he was among the attorneys who filed initial claims against Revlon before the initial Oct. 24 deadline last year. Taylor said the judge's decision to lift the bar and allow extra time for claims against Revlon to be filed is helpful, but he worries the less than one-month period is not enough time."We're talking about less than 30 days to file a claim or forever be barred from bringing a claim," Taylor said. "That is a serious concern. You know, the digital divide is a real thing." He said that people who may want to file claims don't have the resources and technology to do so."
